SOUTH AMERICA, ANDES. Peru. Guided ascents of Huascaran, Alpamayo, Tocllaraju, Urus, Ishinca
Season: May-September
Mountain range of Andes stretches along all the West coast of South America from Ecuador to most South extremity of
Chile. If we talk of Peru – the piece of this mountain system called Cordillera Blanca is
located on the territory of this country. These mountains are extremely interesting not only for the sportive mountain
climbing but also for their cultural historical and ethnographical background. Due to its equatorial location
and some specifics of geological evolution Peruvian Andes are exceptionally unlike the mountains of Europe and Asia.
The peculiar glaciation of this mountains is strongly expressed on the background of multitude of coloured mountain lakes, very specific flora
and fauna – in combination all this results as the bright originality and peculiarity for these magic tropical mountains!
Mountain climbing is highly developed in Peruvian Andes, there is quite reliable infrastructure, many of
mountain climbing and trekking routes are marked and equipped with huts, shelters, toilets, etc. Every year
thousands of amateurs and professional mountain climbers from many countries come for visiting the mountain
peaks to Peru. These mountains are quite high (Huascaran Sur 6746 m the highest mountain in Peru) but the altitude
here is more easy here because of the fact that the atmosphere is thicker here in the proximity of equator and the
amount of oxygen is comparably higher than at the same altitude in Alps or Caucasus. It makes the Peruvian mountains
more accessible for people who are not used to high altitude mountain climbing, for beginners.
